Why is it called a “type-ring”?

Ring + love + type = type-ring. Simply create a ring with your own inscription, on both the inside and outside.

What is the quality of the engraving? Does it wear off?

The quality of the engraving is extremely high, due to our advanced laser technology. The engravings are clearly defined and under normal use, they can withstand the test of time.

How can I pay?

You can use PayPal, Mastercard, VISA, and in selected countries other methods of payment.

What shipping method do you use?

We ship using UPS Carbon Neutral. At the end of each quarter, we compensate the emssions of the transport with the help of the UPS Carbon Neutral scheme. Delivery times range from Next day to five days, depending on the counry of destination. The shipping costs are not included in the price. More on Delivery here.

What is a ring size card?

The ring size card is intended to help you measure or confirm your ring size. It’s easy to use and FREE with a purchase or after a refund with your next purchase. Order the card and we’ll send it to your delivery address with instructions. Read more about the ring size card.

Design and Type

How do I design a type-ring?

• Click on “Ring Designer” and type away!
• Choose the font you like, in the 'outides design' or inside design' option bar
• Edit your design: alter the size, spacing and position of the text

Can I get a custom design on the inside of the ring?

No, the inside design has limitations:

• Fixed size of the text
• Limited number of characters
• Limited typefaces

Which typefaces do you use?

For the rings you can choose from a selection of typefaces of world-renowned font foundry Underware. Please read more on this here.

In our communication we use Gotham (available at Hoefler & Frere-Jones) and Liza Pro (logo) and Liza Caps (headings). 

Can I have a text on the inside of the ring?

Yes, here are the conditions:

• A fixed text size
• Limited number of characters
• Limited typefaces

Do you have other typefaces than the ones you have on the website?

No. But you can use whichever font you have, when you choose the custom design option. See below for more information on Custom Design.

I love your typefaces! Where can I buy them?

Typefaces are available online through Underware or via Veer.com.

Custom Design

How do I use the custom design option?

• Select the appropriate ring and size
• Download the ZIP file with a size and model specific template (SVG file)
• Follow the instructions in the enclosed pdf
• Create your design using a vector program, such as Illustrator® or the free online program Raven
• Upload your design on the corresponding ring

Can I use my own design?

Yes! On the outside, you can create your own design in vectors. There are some conditions:

• Make sure you know your exact ring size. Order the Ring size card if needed.
• Your design and file should fit our Custom design instructions (pdf)
• This is only possible for the outside of the ring

What can I use as a custom design?

Only vector graphics (if you've never heard of these, it’s best you don't try this option :)

Edit your design in Illustrator® or another vector based program, or an online service like Raven.size: Click here.

What are the Custom design instructions?

• VECTORS:
  • Use only vector art, black lines and fills (no greys or colours)
  • Use only SVG files.
  • Do not use bitmaps in the SVG file. This might show up fine in your screen, it will not print on the ring.
• DESIGN:
  • Do not create a adjoining design. Chances are there could be a tiny overlap or gap due to nature of the handmade rings.
  • Use outlines instead of large filled areas.
• TEXT:
  • Use type size pt 6 and above, use line widths of 0.75pt and above
  • Convert all text to paths

Can I use a bitmap (such as a picture or a Photoshop file)?

No. But you can  easily convert bitmap images to clean vector art with Vector Magic online.

What type of files do you use for custom designs?

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphic). You can use this format in almost any vector-based design program. In the future, more file formats will be available.

What rings do you offer?

• Classic: Straight on both sides
• Easyfit: Straight on the outside, rounded on the inside
• Chique: Rounded on both sides

I already have a ring. Can you engrave it?

No, Typerings.com has a pre-set format, in order to maintain a low price. At this point, we only offer new rings. If you have new product suggestions, we’d love to hear from you!

What materials do you offer?

Yellow gold 14k, white gold in 14k and sterling silver. All gold rings have a hallmark on the inside and are approved by the Dutch precious metal authority. Silver rings under 8 grams do not carry a hallmark. If you have new product suggestions, we’d love to hear from you!

Is it possible I could have an allergic reaction?

In rare cases, people can have allergic reactions to silver and gold. The most common metal sensitivity (or allergy) is triggered by another metal in the alloy, used to make jewellery – nickel or chromium. The metals we use are the most commonly used in the world. How do I know what size I have?

We'll send a ring size card to your home address as soon as you've placed your order. With this card, you can check your ring size at home. This is a free service when combined with a ring order. What size system do you use?

Our sizing is based on the German system: the inner diameter in millimeters. You can find out your ring size in several ways. There is a page about our ring sizes.

Returns and Cancellations

How does your returns policy work?

Produced personalised items are typically non-refundable, but in some cases we do offer the opportunity to return a personalised ring:

• In case of a defect or error on our side upon arrival.
• If you ordered a type ring with 'The Question' and (s)he said 'No'

In these above mentioned cases, returning a ring is possible up to 30 calendar days after the purchase. Clear and reasonable instructions should be followed. Via “My Account”, these instructions are available online. Defects will be repaired free of charge. In some cases, we might replace your ring. Because this is a handmade product, the replacement might vary from the original.

Why can't I return a ring anyway?

We're sorry, but produced personalised items are typically non-refundable. But we understand that in some cases, you may want to return a ring anyway. Because we are unable to re-sell your personalised ring, we will will have to subtract a part of the purchase price: € 99 excluding VAT.

Prices are based on Size 19, including tax (19% VAT) and may vary with a smaller or bigger size. For shipping outside of the European Union, we will exclude (deduct) 19% VAT. How can the Ring designer list two different prices?

List prices int the 'rings and sizes' page and in the designer are based on Size 19, including tax (19% VAT) and may vary with a smaller or bigger size, but only with gold and silver rings. So if you select a size higher than 19, you'll see the price increase. The other way around works quite the same.
